hey all, keith truong here.
it’s been 2 days since my annual vascon fix, and i’m having the
worst withdrawal. it was so nice to share my community with the mangos,
to see old faces, and to meet some new faces.
vascon3 was amazing. it was great to share a stage with so many
talented performers and to share our stories and energy with everyone.
by the way, for those of you whose art collections are in need of a boost, please check out amy tran, thomas’ apartment, jennii le, and vudoo soul. they’re all very wonderful, talented people.
we definitely had fun helping with the icebreakers this year, from
the vascon dance party, to spartan cheers, to the world’s biggest game
of red light / green light.
vascon also gave us a chance to experiment with a few things that
have been floating around the insides of our noggins. i promised the
mangos that the attendees that came to vascon would be some of the most
open-minded, ready-to-experience-anything-and-everything people in the
entire universe, and needless to say, we were not disappointed.
this confidence in our audience really allowed us to open up too,
and try some experimental work, such as our interactive “hope for your
community” display to our piece dealing with sight, war, and hope. we
hope everyone enjoyed it as much as we did.
many thanks to the vascon board for pouring their hearts and souls
into creating an event and a space for vietnamese american students
(and friends) to feel at home. it’s a rarity these days, especially in
the south. thanks to all the people that took the time and effort to
fly, drive, and swim to austin for the conference too. i hope the
texans showed you genuine southern hospitality.
i’m already ready for vascon4! save me a seat!
our voices are finally returning, and not a moment too soon. our
next full-length show at the university of houston on april 12th will
be LEGENDARY. it will be the last performances for a couple of our own,
so we’re going to pull all the strings to make this performance reach
epic proportions. if there’s any way you can make it houston, whether
it be by hitchhiking or grand theft auto, do it! it will be worth it!
(probably not, please don’t hitchhike or steal.) anyways, we’re really
excited about it, so come watch!
